The project:

A pub which had had little investment since the 1980s and was run down and dated. It was our client’s first pub and they generously gave us and our partner Colin Ladd Associates a free hand to come up with something interesting - the only brief items were that it should have a cocktail station and to retain the fireplace. A warm and welcoming atmosphere has been created without major alteration to the building but with attention to detail, colour and lighting. Salvaged, re-purposed and altered items have been incorporated in addition to new items to create unique spaces. Since completion, the pub has been very successful.

From the proprietor:

"It has always been a dream of mine to own a pub, but what GWD managed to do was breath taking beyond words.  We were able to find a purchase of a pub in the right area for us, yet the décor of this place hadn’t been looked at in decades. GWD immediately saw the potential but initially I was sceptical about the property. This was until; I saw the architect’s drawings. My vision for my business leaped to another level upon seeing these drawings, and I didn’t quite believe it was possible to do.

I must express that the timescale upon completing this job was outrageous, GWD managed to lift this pub into a new dimension in just two and a half weeks. If you do not believe me, please contact me as I have daily photographic evidence!!

Transforming a property with so much going on in such little time can be extremely stressful, but GWD managed to choreograph things perfectly.

Please feel free to pop down to The Kings Head in Sutton Valence and I will personally show you around at the craftsmanship’s work that has gone into this place. I must mention that the pubs sign, which is hand sculptured, is absolutely stunning, so much so that when I first saw it I phoned the artist up to thank him!"
